BUZZ
The season is changing. The days are shorter, commutes are darker, and its bloody cold in the morning, and… it’s raining. Is it even possible to go outside? Actually, yes… it can be fun…! It’s like going back to school; changing out equipment, exchanging war stories with friends, installing a radical new fender system... motivation is possibly at a new height! Come in and grab some lights that blind your friends, and some fenders to keep your wheel spray out of their eyes.
Okay, so the 2011 racing season is over. Some guy that no one’s heard of just won Lombardia. That was a BUZZ kill. But it doesn’t have to be like that for you! The beginning of the off-season is the best time to sign up for a coaching program and get your 2012 preparation under way. (Don’t tell anyone), but we’re going to start offering the best and most informed coaching and physiological testing on the eastside! Feel free to ask about it, and stay tuned as the vision comes into focus over the next few months. As always, our products and services are 100% committed to customer satisfaction.
Northwave shoes are possibly the best bang-for-your-buck. They offer high-end at an affordable price without compromising quality. Tom Peterson personally endorses Northwave and has worn them over the last 2 years. We now have a selection in stock and will continue to bring more of their brand line into the store. Drop in, try a pair on, touch them, feel them…
The inaugural Peterson Bicycle Shop SUPER PRO event time frame is changing a bit. Dates are the same, 26th: Meet and greet at the shop 4pm-5:30pm. VIP Dinner at nearby undisclosed location 7pm, ($150, register at the shop). 27th: Ride with the pros from the shop 1:30pm-3pm. VIP dinner is catered by Jason Wilson winner of the 2010 James Beard award (Crush.com), wine list is created by Erik Liedhom.

Peterson Bicycle Shop BUZZ
Our Frequent Buyer Program is on! The cards came in late last week and we’ve been handing them out ever since. The concept is simple, buy more, save more. No hidden excitement- what you see is what you get. Inquire within.
The shop was starting to look mundane. Every day was the same. We’d close the shop, and there the bikes were. The next day, we opened, and there they were: same place as yesterday. The next day: repeat. The bikes were stuck in a rut; the shop was stuck in a rut. It was like a being lost within a labyrinth of bikes. But then something happened! It was so new and abstract. We rearranged the bikes! Yes, you heard us, we rearranged the bikes! No one’s doing that, but we are! Shakira came in the other day and said that we exemplified her concept of “bringing sexy back.”
Sean is back. He left on sabbatical to discover the finer things in life early September. His travels took him all over the world. Of his excursions he mentioned that he most enjoyed swimming with hippopotamuses in the Congo.
Winter gear has arrived. Legions of it! Think of it as an armada of soldiers who’ve come to get you through the winter. No matter what the winter brings, it won’t be able to defeat your defenses. There are a lot of ways to think of it. The point is that we have it, & we’ve got the best of it.
The flashy lights are coming to Peterson Bicycle Shop. Mark your calendars for 11/26 and 27. We are hosting an exclusive opportunity for you to meet and chat with your favorite professional athletes: Martijn Maaskant, Tom Peterson, and Tyler Farrar!
11/26: In the shop 4pm-6:30pm Meet and greet, no rsvp necessary, just show up.
11/26: VIP Opportunity, 8pm-10pm. Wine & Dine. All inclusive: $150.
11/27: From the shop 1:30pm-3:30pm, ride, no rsvp necessary, just show up.

All things Fiziik

All things Fiziik are now available in the store. Fiziik is known most for their expertise as a manufacturer of high-end saddles... but recently they took what they knew of high-end saddles and applied it to cycling shoes. If their shoes are anything like their seats, then you'll get the best in the business. Fiziik has chosen a handful of shops in the Northwest to resale their shoes and we are one of them. Come stop by and have a look!

Peterson Bicycle Announces Partnership with Cervelo S.A, Felt Bicycles, La Pierre

Peterson Bicycle is proud to announce their partnership with Cervelo S.A, Felt Bicycles, and La Pierre. Ben Peterson, manager, commented saying “we are very excited to work with all of these new brands. We have a personal relationship with all of them, and each is well known for their consumer satisfaction which is directly in line with our stringent policies in regard to customer service.”
The owner of Peterson Bicycle, Tom Peterson, raced on Felt’s AR and F series frames over the last three years on Garmin-slipstream, and this year races on Cervelo frames. “Both of these manufacturers make arguably the best bikes in the world. In the shop we are going to be carrying a lot of Felt’s road and mountain bikes, personally I’m quite excited about the Edict LTD, it’s a full suspension bike by Felt that’s going to blow the scene up. I think it weighs in the range of 21 pounds, which for a full suspension bike is pretty incredible; that bike’s going to be turning some heads this year. As for Cervelo they don’t need much of an introduction. Their bikes receive the best reviews again and again. They’re focused on making the best road frames, and having ridden them already for the past 2 months I can certify that their incredible. I’ve never been on anything quite like it, they’ve done a fantastic job, and now that we’ve got them in the shop they’re going to bring the level of our shop way up. We’re incredibly excited to be working with these brands.”
Peterson Bicycle will also carry La Pierre which is a French bicycle manufacturer. La Pierre carries a pedigree of their own having sponsored the Professional road team Francaise des Jeux for the past several years. Throughout Europe La Pierre is well know for their professionalism and innovation in racing bicycle technology. They have just over the past few years come onto the scene in America. Peterson Bicycle is excited to present the Lapierre brand to its clients through a partnership that will be ongoing for the next several years.

La Clasica de Almeria
120 professional cyclists took the start Sunday in the Spanish one day classic Clasica Almeria. Among them were Tom Peterson and five of his Garmin-Cervelo team mates. The parcours on the day saw three categorized climbs along the 180 kilometer route characterized by sparse vegetation, unrelenting cross & tail winds, and gruelingly undulating terrain. As the cyclists crossed kilometer zero drops of rain began to fall on the dry arid landscape and upon the Spanish roads infamously known for their oil slick attributes when wet.
Immediately from the neutral racing was aggressive. The American Garmin-Cervelo team responded in unison covering and initiating moves over the first 60 kilometers, each rider took turns powering into short lived escapes, each distinguished by an imperfect composition of teams. At kilometer 95 the race came to the second of the three mountain classifications and aggressive racing continued. Peterson Bicycle’s Tom Peterson responded to the aggression and accelerated to cover a chaos of attacks all the way over the mountain causing the peleton to split into bits of 20 rider groups. Tom continued to ride aggressively on the decent off the mountain where numerous riders found themselves on the ground due to the oil slick nature of the road. Navigating the fallen riders Tom was soon in a select group of over 25 riders. No one in the group was eager to work with the others and so the pace slowed. Behind however, more crashes marred the peleton and in fact it too split into four groups, so despite the slow speed of the front group, the groups behind were not speeding towards the finish line either. Finally the groups came together and a small 3 rider breakaway was allowed to ride at two minutes ahead of the peleton.
The sprinter teams took control of the race smelling the scent of a field sprint and began to reel the three riders in the front back in. At the end of the day the Garmin-Cervelo team was satisfied with their day of racing having been in every move of the day and felt they had good condition after a very hard day of unrelenting racing. Tom Peterson spoke on the day of racing saying “I had a big surprise today, normally coming straight into a one-day race I have problems getting my legs going, but today from the gun I was feeling really well. Straight away I was in moves, initiating moves, doing everything I was capable of. For sure there was a moment when I was a bit afraid of the roads; they were so wet and slippery. I’ve never been riding my bike straight and felt like I was slipping before. It was a bit nerve racking, but at the end of the day everything turned out all right, I’m really happy with my condition just coming back from sickness at Algarve. Good things are to come for sure. Next race is eroica in Italy, I think it will go fantastically.”
Tom will use the next four days in Girona as preparation to continue with his current form in the Italian one day classic Monte Paschi Eroica.

Volta Algarve

Tom Peterson of Peterson Bicycle flew south on Tuesday February 15th ahead of the Portuguese early season stage race Volta Algarve. Having just finished the Tour Mediterranean Tom had no expectations coming into the race other than to help his team mates throughout the race and perhaps try for something towards the later part of the competition. Unfortunately on Monday the 15th Tom began to feel a bit of a head cold coming on. He raced Tuesday and tried to recover over night but the illness only increased and he was forced to abandon by not taking the start Wednesday morning. Tom said “It’s really a shame. I felt great coming out of Mediterranean and I really was excited to have a go here. Portugal is one of those countries you don’t get a chance to race in often and I always relish the opportunity. Unfortunately I picked up a bug straight after Med and that has only escalated. Perhaps I should have quit the 1st stage half way through instead of pressing to the finish and hoping to feel better the next day. I probably just made things worse.” Tom will fly home on Thursday morning and begin to rest up and recover for his next race: the one day Spanish classic Classica Almeria.

Tour Mediterranean Stage 3
Today’s stage of 130 kilometers saw aggressive riding from the get go with two categorized mountain passes in the first 30 kilometers. Tom’s Garmin-Cervelo team took part in the action immediately sending Andrew Talansky, Peter Stetina, Dan Martin, Christoph le Mevel, and Peterson Bicycle’s own Tom Peterson, up the road in response to and to help initiate break away efforts. After cresting the second of the two climbs the race plunged down hill and for another 40 kilometers the racers played a game of attack and follow. At kilometer 70 the peleton had just crested a short explosive hill and splintered, and in a moment of hesitation Tom Peterson made his move. Tom built up a lead of 4:45 but in a brutal section of head wind during the last 50 kilometers 4 teams and 8 riders began to pull him back. With just 10 kilometers to go Tom was caught and the sprinters teams began to set things up for a field sprint.
With three days of racing done and two of the most important general classification days suited perfectly to Tom, Tom is posed to both clinch a strong finish in the overall and be among the leaders in the coming stages.

Destinies Manifest
Peterson Bicycle: Expanding!
On January 21st Peterson Bicycle demolished its South wall to make way for its inevitable growth. “We just can’t hold the amount of inventory we intend to carry, and our customers can’t browse like we’d like for them to” said Ben Peterson, who is head of operations and a member of the Peterson Bicycle client relations team. “We have a lot of big plans, Tom has a great vision for the shop and I think this is our first step in the direction of that vision. We’re all really excited about the way things are going; we want everyone to experience what we’re doing and how we do things differently.”
On January 1st Peterson Bicycle signed an addendum adding approximately 1200 square feet to its floor space, and on the 21st knocked down the southern wall separating their newly acquired vacant space. On the same day their contractor constructed another wall 40 feet farther south which effectively gave the store a total of 2500 square feet. Work to renovate the new space is currently underway, and current projections predict that the addition will be ready by March 1st.

Tom Peterson’s 2011 spring race schedule ANNOUNCED. You heard it first here

The 2011 season has begun! On January 6th Tom flew on a British Airways flight in route to Barcelona and made the 45 mile drive northeast to Girona where he trains and lives throughout the racing season. Two days later the first of two training camps took place 400 kilometers south in the Spanish beach town of Calpe in the all inclusive Hotel Sol y Mar. Daily training consisted of rides of three to five hours with cadence and power specific work interspersed throughout each session. The camp came to an end on January 19th and Tom reported that the sensations leaving the camp were excellent and his early season ambitions seemed to be inline with those sensations: “my progress is great; this is exactly where I want to be at this point.” Tom also commented on the atmosphere within the team saying “the feeling within the team is great; we get on fantastically. It’s like we’ve known each other since childhood; like being on a team with a bunch of mates from high school.”
For the moment Tom will bide his time in Girona, fine tune positioning on his bicycles and rest up for the second of the two training camps which will be held in Tom’s adopted European residence in Girona at the Hotel Ac Palau Bellavista starting early next week. When asked for comment on the second camp Tom said “About the camp in Girona? It’s sensational! I mean it’s like if the team bus dropped me off in Renton, it just doesn’t happen. It’s going to be great, it’s very motivating to have a camp with your team in your hometown and have the opportunity to show your new team mates around your town. It’s a blessing, I’m very excited.”
The training camp begins early next week, we will be in the heart of the action to document it as it unfolds.
